Hector Betancourt

Hector Betancourt joined the Loma Linda Graduate Department of Psychology in 1993 and served as the Founding Department Chair until 1998. Currently, he currently serves as a Professor of Psychology and Principal Investigator at Loma Linda University, in California, USA, and Universidad de La Frontera, in Chile.

Professor Betancourt has research interests in attribution theory and its applications, culture in psychological (e.g., attribution-emotion) processes, culture and psychological processes in conflict, peace, violence, and health related behaviors. In the classroom, Professor Betancourt's teaching is generally focused on social psychology, cultural psychology and social issues. The specialized courses he teaches focus on attribution theory, cross-cultural psychology, culture and psychological processes in health and social issues, and the psychological study of conflict, peace, and violence.
